What We Do
We work with the industry in a variety of practical ways:
- Training & Skills self-evaluation and validation programme - this self-evaluation exercise gives the industry the opportunity to gauge for itself the impact and quality of the training it is providing. We have an open access site for any organisation to review their own training performance, see http://www.ldinbroadcasting.co.uk/se/. It is supported by a guidebook to performance, see www.ldinbroadcasting.co.uk/gb.
- National Training Awards for Broadcast Industry - this showcases best practice within the industry. For more details please visit our awards page. The Broadcast Award has been set up in partnership with Ofcom and Skillset with UK Skills. See a summary of the 2008 awards ceremony.
- Events - We work with the industry to stage a series of events – face to face and online – to bring the Learning & Development community within the broadcast industry together to stimulate debate and share experiences. The flagship event for 2009
is the Learning & Development in Broadcasting Conference 2009 held at BAFTA
- Freelancers - We take an interest in the training provision for freelancers. We hold events at which we can hear their concerns and try to work on ways to improve their access to relevant training opportunities. We also support the Freelance Fund administered by Skillset. For more details please see our Freelancers page
- Publish a Training and Skills Report - this brings together the many insights and feedback we have gained over the year and presents it in an actionable form for the industry to use together with case studies highlighting good practice and transferable ideas. See the box on the right to download a copy, or get in touch with us for a print copy.
- Equal Opportunities - in 2009, for the first time, the BETR published the
Equal Opportunities Report based on collated data from 2008 provided by Ofcom to the BETR. This is a prelude to the BETR taking on the role of
co-regulator for Equal Opportunities. The report also sets out the approach, options and timescales for the full co-regulatory system
- Supporting Documents and Services - We have developed a suite of support documents and services to the industry; these include a Case Study Portfolio (available online and as a print copy), an online Self-evaluation Guidebook, a LinkedIn L&D in Broadcasting community and a Good Practice Partnering Scheme - we put companies in touch with one another to share experiences or where a company would like further support. Please contact us for more details.
