BETR ceased to exist on 30 June 2011.
As of this date its duties and responsibilities reverted to the communications regulator Ofcom, the Office of Communications. For further information about Ofcom's work go to www.ofcom.org.uk.
BETR Closure
As you may be aware, the Government announced plans last year to make a number of changes to Ofcom’s duties, including removing those to promote training and equal opportunities in the broadcasting sector. The primary legislation that will enable orders to be made to make these changes was introduced to Parliament earlier in the current session. The immediate impact for us is that of April 2011 the BETR will no longer function as the co-regulator but we will prepare and publish a final report in respect of the 2010 data, by the end of June. At that point, Ofcom will resume responsibility for the duties and the BETR will close down. Ofcom will continue to make the BETR website available for reference purposes until the legislative process has been completed. In the event that the legislative process is protracted, Ofcom shall contact broadcasters later this year to discuss what transitional arrangements may be necessary to meet the continuing duties.
Industry Feedback Day – Monday 6th June, 2011 (pm)
The BETR will be holding a final Industry Feedback session on the afternoon of Mon 6th June 2011 at Ofcom at which we will report our key findings from the 2010 data and host a session to discuss on how the industry can take this work forward. All companies who were required to report to us under the co-regulatory agreement are invited to send representatives to this meeting. National Training Award – closing date Friday 20th May 2011
One of the consequences of the end of the BETR is that we are no longer able to offer the Broadcast Industry Awards under the National Training Award scheme. UK Skills have made further changes to the entry procedure for 2011 onwards. The National Training Awards will only be open to Investors in People accredited organisations (unless the organisation employs 20 or less employees in which case they are not required to be IiP accredited). If your organisation meets the entry criteria and you feel you have an award winning entry, please find further information and entry guidance at www.nationaltrainingawards.com
